Supporting local farmers and their communities is why Urban Cookhouse does what we do. All of Urban Cookhouse’s fruits and vegetables are sourced from local farmers, and our meats are smoked over charcoal and hickory wood using the Big Green Egg grill. Fresh produce from farms not only adds an unprocessed freshness to our meals, but it also contributes to protecting our local economy and environment. Support Urban Cookhouse, and you’ll be supporting small businesses! Keep reading to learn more about each of our valued, partner farms.

Southern Oaks Farm

Located in Springville, Alabama, Southern Oaks Farm has provided fresh produce to Urban Cookhouse for over seven years. This makes them one of our most long standing partners. So what is Southern Oaks Farm’s area of veggie specialty? They provide red leaf and romaine lettuce for our salads, as well as broccoli, bell peppers, jalapeños and cucumbers. Not only that, but they also provide us with cantaloupe and watermelon for our fruit side dishes and delicious toppings, as well as strawberries for the Berry Good Salad and Berry Good Wrap. Never one to miss a delivery for fresh produce, we know we can always count on Southern Oaks Farm.

Hamm Farm

Located in Cullman, Alabama, Hamm Farm is family owned and operated by father and son duo, Dwight and Chris Hamm. They have been farming for more than 17 years and have a wonderful reputation for being a reliable, local produce vendor. Do you ever notice the fresh tomatoes, eggplant and bell peppers found in our salads, soups and roasted vegetables? Those are all provided by Hamm Farm! They are also known for growing a unique variety of some of the hottest peppers in the area. Next time you eat the Lime-Marinated Steak and Urban Cowboy, you’ll know that the onions came from Hamm Farm!

Harvest Farm

Also located in Cullman, Alabama, Harvest Farm is responsible for providing the sweet, fresh strawberries used to make our signature, homemade Strawberry Lemonade. During strawberry season each spring, he provides around 1000 gallons of fresh strawberries that UC purees and freezes so that we can serve our customers’ favorite lemonade all year round. Harvest Farm is owned by Trent Boyd and his family — they grow over 40 vegetables and eight fruits on their farm, and they also provide UC with fresh broccoli for the Broccoli Salad.

Smitherman Farms

Located in Clanton, Alabama, Smitherman Farm provides cherry tomatoes, squash, zucchini and corn to Urban Cookhouse. Their fresh produce can be found in our salads, soups and in our roasted vegetables. Their cherry tomatoes are used in the UC Garden, Pepper Patch and Berry Good Salads, and their zucchini and squash add a delicious touch to our Shrimp Kabobs. Smitherman Farms is located in the heart of peach county and has been in the family for 60 years. Josh, the primary owner, has been farming since he was in the fifth grade. They also deliver fresh fruits and vegetables straight to their customers’ doors in custom farm boxes!

Eagles’ Wings

Eagles Wings is a nonprofit in Tuscaloosa, Alabama that provides day habilitation services for adults with developmental disabilities. Jerry and Sandra Pike founded Eagles' Wings Inc. in honor of their son, Joey. Urban Cookhouse has teamed up with Eagles' Wings to receive “Joey’s Finest” romaine lettuce that we use in all of our Salads, Sandwiches and Wraps. The growing of produce is part of the nonprofit’s services, as they allow those in their care to participate in vocational horticulture projects. We are proud to partner with this organization that does so much good for our community!

Pockett Farm

Also located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Pockett Farm runs a family-owned operation that specializes in delicious blueberries and blackberries that we use in the Berry Good Salad and Wrap. The Beams family started this farm in 2011, dedicated to bringing top of the line fruits to local communities. The farm is located just off North River in North Tuscaloosa county. This farm provides the berries on the Urban Cookhouse Berry Good salad, as well as on seasonal desserts.

Millie Ray and Sons

While not technically a farm, Urban Cookhouse wouldn’t be where we are today without Millie Ray and Sons, who provide us with their signature orange rolls. Now a UC classic and customer favorite, these orange rolls are the perfect complement to our unique, fresh dishes. Urban Cookhouse was the first customer of Millie Ray and Sons — they now provide us with their orange rolls at all UC locations.
